3rd - 8th Grades

Spark curiosity and creativity through hands-on exploration of electricity and engineering! In this engaging grade school program, youth will discover how electrical energy powers the world around them while building practical STEM skills.

Nebraska's College and Career Ready Standards of Science Addressed:

  • SC.3.1.1.C. Ask questions to determine cause and effect relationships of electrical or magnetic interactions between two objects not in contact with each other.
  • SC.4.4.2.B. Make observations to provide evidence that energy can be transferred from place to place by sound, light, heat, and electrical currents.
  • SC.5.3.1.A. Develop a model to describe that matter is made of particles too small to be seen.
  • SC.6.4.1.A. Apply scientific principles to construct and test a device that minimizes or maximizes thermal energy transfer.
  • SC.8.2.2.B. Develop and use a model to describe that waves are reflected, absorbed, or transmitted through various materials.

Program Options:

  • Select from the following lessons, up to 3 hours:
    • Electricity Basics - explore circuits, conductors, insulators, and electrical safety. (1 hr. session, 3rd-8th grades)
    • Renewable Energy - understand renewable energy and how sunlight can be converted into electricity. (1-1.5 hr. session, 4th-8th grades)
    • Light-up Cards - using conductive materials to design light-up projects. (1 hr. session, 4th-8th grades)
    • Ozobots - develop problem-solving and coding skills through robotics challenges. (1-1.5 hr. session, 3rd-8th grades)
    • Sewable Circuitry - fabric project, combining engineering, creativity, and wearable technology. (1-1.5 hr. session, 5th-8th grades)

Class Type: In-person taught mini-series of lessons

Fee: 50$ (3 - 1 hr. sessions OR 2 - 1.5 hr. sessions)
