Testing Soil For Lead

"Lead-contaminated soil is not uncommon in urban areas, and Omaha is no exception.  Urban soil can be contaminated from automobile exhaust from the days when cars ran on leaded gasoline, or from deteriorating lead-based paint.  Industry can also be a source of lead in soil.  An area in Omaha east of 45th Street, south of Ames Avenue, and north of L Street has been designated an Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Superfund Site as a result of soil being contaminated by industry.

The EPA will test soil in the high risk area for free.  Any concerned individual can have their soil tested for lead using Midwest Laboratories in Omaha; 402-334-7770, web site is www.midwestlabs.com. The cost is around $35"
