Chromated Copper Arsenate (CCA) Treated Wood

On February 12, 2002  the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced a voluntary decision by the industry to faze out consumer use of chromated copper arsenate (CCA) pressure treated lumber. CCA pressure treated wood contains arsenic. They announced a December 31, 2003 target date for replacing CCA pressure treated products with new alternatives. The transition affected virtually all residential uses of wood treated with CCA including: play structures, decks, gazebos, picnic tables, landscaping timbers, residential fencing, patios and walkways/boardwalks.
