Mercury

Mercury is a silvery, mobile, liquid that is used in thermometers and other products. It is a hazardous chemical that can cause harmful health effects when inhaled. Both short-term exposure to high concentrations and long term exposure (repeated or prolonged) to lower concentrations can be harmful. If you have a mercury-containing thermometer, store it safely until you can dispose of it in a mercury recycling program. If one breaks, follow mercury clean-up guidelines provided by the Nebraska Health and Human Services System (HHSS) or call the HHSS Indoor Air Quality Program (402-471-8320) for additional information.
