Zorinsky Lake Watershed Council
Educational Project Underway
The Zorinsky Lake Watershed Council’s runoff pollution
prevention educational project has begun. The Council developed
an educational pamphlet and door hanger that have been
distributed to residents living in the housing subdivisions
closest to the lake. With the aid of the Boy Scouts and
neighborhood associations, educational materials have been given
to over 3000 residences. The materials discuss runoff pollution,
how many day -to -day activities can contribute to runoff
pollution and ways to prevent runoff pollution. Also the Council
is raising the awareness of the residents regarding no dumping
in stormwater drains. Pollutants entering the stormwater drains
are carried to the lake. The Council has marked over 200
stormwater drain inlets with a No Dumping Drains to Zorinsky
Lake disc. Efforts by volunteers and the Boy Scouts will
continue in order to mark additional stormwater drains in the
housing subdivisions.
The purpose of the educational project to help residents
become aware of the threat of runoff pollution to the lake and
for residents to make changes in their everyday behaviors and
practices which contribute to runoff pollution.
