 Crickets

Crickets
by Dennis M. Ferraro Extension Educator Douglas/Sarpy Extension Unit

Most crickets mature in August, and the males begin to "sing."
Crickets cause few problems outdoors, since they do little damage to garden crops and eat some other insects. Indoors they may chew holes in textile or paper products. Their sound is also annoying to many people.
For small indoor infestations, sticky traps such as those used for cockroaches are effective. Bait the traps with cornmeal or other natural grains. If large numbers of crickets invade your home, an insecticide barrier five feet wide around the house can be used. Sevin, or Diazinon or Baygon are options. Follow label directions.
