2009 National 4-H Invitational Shooting Sports Match

Nebraska is hosting the 2009 National 4-H Invitational Shooting Sports Match at the Heartland Public Shooting Park and Events center in Grand Island on June 24-28.  This event will involve 4-H youth from across the nation competing in Archery, Rifle, Pistol, Shotgun, Muzzleloading, and Hunting Skills. Nebraska will also have teams competing in this national event. Last year, 440 participants from 29 states competed in the three-day competition.

It will require the help of many volunteers to make this event happen. The 2009 National Invitational takes place over a 7 day period, June 22-28, including setup, practice, shooting and tear down.  Help will be required on all days in many different ways:

  • Monday and Tuesday will be setup of all contest ranges and check-in.
  •  Wednesday, registration and equipment check will continue along with practice rounds for participants.
  • Thursday and Friday will be shooting in the morning and practice for the next day’s competition in the afternoon.
  • Saturday is shooting in the morning, teardown in the afternoon and awards in the evening. Teardown will continue into Sunday if necessary.
  •  Sunday will be the overall awards breakfast.

We would like to enlist the assistance of 4-H volunteers who could contribute some time to help make the 2009 National Invitational Event a success.  We need the help of volunteers each day.  If we can get enough help, each volunteer will not have to donate as much time.

Your information will be forwarded to one of the Nebraska Event Range Officers. They in turn will contact you if your assistance is needed. To help us gather the needed information and available times please fill out the Volunteer Sign-up form and return to the address provided. The sign-up form can be found at http://4h.unl.edu/programs/environment/shootingsports/

Your help is needed and will be greatly appreciated. Feel free to contact me at (402) 395-2158 or (308) 536-2691 if you have questions. Thank you for supporting the Nebraska 4-H Program.
